The Benson Letter - October 2022

The Benson Letter
October 2022

Hello to my friends and clients. Fall is when you wish you were a mountaineer no matter where you live. Unless you are color blind, you know exactly what I mean, and I want to thank all of you for making my daily job better by your outdoor decorations. A special thanks to Rich and Susan for this idea:

Put Your Free Fertilizer to Good Use

What do we do with all these durn leaves? Search “leaves” on the website to see how many things I have written about leaves. The most important is short and sweet. See October 2019.  This story has not changed since then nor has the craziness of all the folk I see putting their lawns fertilizer in bags and giving it away.

A Mylan Success Story

One of the things that I love about Morgantown is her resilience and I wish to share an example that tells that story. Where did all those Mylan employees go that got laid off? Let me introduce you to one of those. Todd Bowermaster, a chemist at Mylan for 22 years, now represents one of the best heating and cooling companies in Morgantown, Absolute Air.

In his words, Todd explains the experience and it’s not a story of woe is me. Rather, he credits Brian Jackson, the owner of Absolute Air, for seeking him out and offering him his current position, that of a visual HVAC expert. You may be thinking what I thought during the interview. “How did chemistry prepare him for this?” Obviously, Brian hired the personality that God gives folks like Todd, knowing he can always train up the skills.

I asked Todd what he liked about Absolute Air? He said, “My job is going out, and meeting new and interesting people, every day. That is the highlight, and it’s also making a difference that makes their life better. They get to choose their equipment to make themselves comfortable in their own residence, whether it’s a temporary stay or their forever home.”

If you want to know why Morgantown is such a great place to live, sit down and have a cup of coffee with Todd. He is one of my best BNI referrals and I would love the opportunity to make that connection.

Jasper

Obviously one of the highlights of our month was meeting and interviewing our favorite pet. I was really excited this month when I showed up at Sharon and John Patti’s house to spray and rushing to meet me was Jasper, with Sharon close behind.

Jasper let me know that on this portrait day that he was 13 weeks old and loved his new home. His new parents had bought him all kinds of toys that squeaked and made loud noises that they loved to hear. He had been particularly working on Lambchop and Pig, but he really was partial to Porcupine. However, he recently discovered a quieter obsession that he thought his Mom and Dad would prefer but it seems chewing their new shoes is not a better choice. Boy, it makes them mad in fact, but I think he will eventually find that perfect shoe.

Please note that the one photo has Jasper standing on the back of his most tolerant mom. He thinks that mom is really cool for letting him do that but as she and I attempted to free her from that position Sharon shared that his teeth were very, very sharp. Ouch! On the ground, Jasper illustrated his skills for tearing up the turf and with simple head shakes spreading soil and debris everywhere. Obviously, a superior skill that he has perfected on his own.

Thank you so much for sharing your child with us and our friends. We realize that there is about nine months of puppy hell that has to be survived before we get that ten years of joy that follows.

There's a corner on the website that features the many pets that are a blessing to Jay's clients. Jay's wife, Diane, loves pets so much that she becomes their dogmother.

For most of our pest treatments we can start any time a crisis comes up, no matter the time of year. In this case, though, the snow covering on the ground makes this a not-great time to address ticks. Let’s look forward to spring instead and get serious about addressing the problem as early as we can.
